Games on OCA website

I would like to see an increasing number of games published on the OCA website (with a possible view to the best game prize.) To this end I have posted Marcus Harvey's crucial game in the recent British Under 14 Championships and will also post the winning game of the recent George vs Stephen encounter. Oxon juniors at the British Champs

Update (belated as I've been away): Marcus duly got a comfortable draw in the last round; Felix also drew so Marcus took the title by a clear point, with a tournament rating of 204. Meanwhile, Anna Wang finished joint second in the U12 section -- well done again! -- while Daniel D'Souza Eva was half-way down with 3½/7.

(Original item:) With a round to go in the U14 section, Marcus Harvey is on 6/6 and needs only a draw to secure the title outright. He's a point clear of top seed Felix Ynojosa (graded 215!), whom Marcus defeated in round 4; Felix appears to be playing in the U14 section in the mornings as preparation for appearing in the main British Champs in the afternoon. Meanwhile Maria Wang is on 3/6 and Chantelle Foster on 2/6.

The U11 section finished last Friday. Anna Wang scored an unbeaten 6/7, although a draw in the last round enabled her nearest pursuer to catch her so the title was shared. Congratulations Anna!

The U16 tournament also ran last week. James Foster was the top Oxfordshire player with 4/7; Maria scored 3½/7 and Chantelle 3/7.

British Championships 2010

Cowley Summer Blitz

The 2010 Cowley Summer Blitz was held on Monday 21 June. 32 players competed. 

Csaba Koszta won with a perfect 10/10 score by a margin of no less than three points.
Bicester's Marcus Harvey, the winner of the previous event just before
Christmas, was among the distant runners-up on 7/10.

Town v Gown

This year's edition of the Town v Gown match was held on Saturday 22 
May at St John's College over eight boards. For the first time for 
some years the Town team emerged victorious, with a score of 7-1,

Chiltern under grade 150 final table.

All good things have to come to an end and our run coming top of the
league has. We were top in the four previous years but only third this year. 
It was a close contest. We lost 9-7 in the away game to Bucks and 9-7
in the away game against Hants, so one more win in each match next year 
will put us back on top.

My thanks to the 34 players who took part in one or more of the matches. 
I hope that you all enjoyed your games.

Oxfordshire under 150 team draw with Hampshire.

The Chiltern league under grade 150 match between Oxfordshire and 
Hampshire played at Magdalan College School on 20th March ended in an 
eight all draw. Both sides won six games and there were four draws. 

The end of the match was very exciting because with three games to 
finish we needed to win all three to achieve the draw. First Steve 
Rumsby completed his win. Then Malcolm Brindley somehow won what had 
been an even game which looked at some stages as if it might go the 
wrong way. Then we all watched, with bated breath, while Gary Reynolds 
completed his win after a long and difficult endgame.

Buckinghamshire Vs Oxfordshire under 150 result.

Our Oxfordshire under grade 150 team lost their Chiltern league away
match against Buckinghamshire by 9 games to 7 at Holmer Green on
Saturday 27th February.  
It was a very close match with just half of the games being drawn. 
The result was in doubt until the last game finished, but unfortunately
Rod Langham was unable to save his game after a long hard fight.  
It was an interesting afternoon and I think everyone enjoyed the match.

Submitting Results

I've now widened the permissions for results submission. In addition to the managers of the teams involved, the person (typically the club secretary) listed as the 'contact' on the clubs page can submit, amend and confirm league and cup results for any of that club's teams, as can the owner of the club's entry on the clubs page.

This extension meant several changes to the most complicated programming on the website. Although the new code seems to be working OK, please let me know if anything goes wrong: particularly with the Cup (Frank Wood Shield) because that's harder to test fully.
