Internal battles for City and Cowley in FWSThe results from the quarter-finals of the Frank Wood Shield saw Oxford City 2 beating Cumnor, City 1 beating MCS Blackbirds, Cowley 1 winning at Witney and Cowley 2 beating University 2, in a match that went to board count. So the semi-finals have a pleasing symmetry: City 1 v City 2 in the top half of the draw, and Cowley 1 v Cowley 2 in the bottom half. The matches are scheduled for the week beginning 22 February. |

RODNEY HOUSE CLUB BICESTER CLOSEDThe Civil Service and Ministry of Defence Sports councils have withdrawn all support and funding for the Rodney House Civil Service Club and it is therefore to close on Sunday January 31 2010. The argument is that there is now insufficient civil servants in Bicester to justify the expense. So the chess club has had to find a new home which we have done at Bicester Bowls Club. Full directions to the club are now on the OCA website entry for the now retitled "Bicester Chess Club". It will also be on the Bicester Chess Club website www.freewebs.com/bicesterchess. |
